Beauty Care: Aesthetics in the Age of Internet Creator Culture.
During the presentation on the influence of internet creator culture on the beauty industry, we identified some of the aspects of social media that connect with the trade culture and we recognized the professional development aspect of user-generated content, since personal interest and social connectivity are motivators for informal learning. During the exchange, we discussed the advantages and challenges of this topic in a teaching practice, and what is already being done in centres. Often the students take the lead, since they are engaged in the platforms and are aware of their audience. However, it was brought up that they are often missing critical thinking skills about what they are seeing and need assistance to learn how to judge if a posting is low quality featuring poor techniques that could potentially do harm.

This meeting was on October 23, 2023. It was hosted by Robin Long, Provincial Vocational Training Education Consultant and Marc Vézina, Education Consultant, RÉCIT-Vocational Training, English School Boards.
