In this Voc Talk café by Après-Cours, the thematic is « Using Triangulation Techniques in Healthcare Programs » presented by Kelly Ryan, Pedagogical Consultant for VT and AGE, NFSB. In this Voc Talk café we looked at a resource developed in the adult general education sector that helps teachers and students use a three-pronged approach to see the big picture of a student’s learning. This technique, called triangulation, mirrors systems used in healthcare to ensure quality patient care. We explored the key elements of triangulation: conversations, observations and product, then discussed what they look like in healthcare. We spoke about how it has a place in vocational training, but often the conversation is ephemeral and we are focused on the end result, since often that end result is what will be evaluated. Many participants offered suggestions about what they were doing with their students to render those conversations more visible and accessible at different moments in time. Finally, we spoke about how to spread our evaluating over time to avoid becoming overwhelmed – from the student’s learning perspective, and from the teacher’s task perspective.
This meeting was on October 2, 2023. It was hosted by Robin Long, Provincial Vocational Training Education Consultant and Marc Vézina, Education Consultant, RÉCIT-Vocational Training, English School Boards.
